The Bermuda Professional Photographers Association is fifty years old. The late Richard Saunders with a number of other local Bermudian photographers came together to establish a professional association to improve the photographic industry in Bermuda. Mr. Saunders would go on to have a highly successful International career working in photojournalism all over the world.
The fortunes of this small professional group have ebbed and flowed with market forces. Today the BPPA is again in ascendancy with twenty-six members representing the bulk of the Bermudian Professional Photographers. Considerable emphasis for the BPPA is the protection of local assignments from unfair external competion. The BPPA is supportive of visiting photographers conducting International assignments using Bermuda for locations, often assist, and rent equipment to help accomplish the required work. It is only Bermuda assignments for Bermuda based companies that the BPPA protects for Bermudian photographers. However all visiting photographers need prior immigration clearance for photographic work in Bermuda. The Bermuda Immigration Department and Bermuda Tourism department can help with all matters relevant to visiting photographers.
